Two Sides of the Missions
Hello Everyone!
Here's a little note from a VIDES alum. In about a month (March 18), I'll be entering as a Benedictine postulant at Mt. Angel Abbey in Oregon. This is my way of living the VIDES legacy. Sounds a little strange doesn't it. Yeah. I've come to realize through the last two years of service that I am called to be a Benedictine monk, and as a monk, I'll keep VIDES and the volunteers in my prayers. As you may know, the church has two patron saint of missions, St. Francis Xavier and St. Therese of Lisieux. St. Francis worked tirelessly proclaiming the gospel in India and Japan, whereas St. Therese was a contemplative Carmelite nun. The church recognizes both parts as crucial to the missions. It is true that I loved to work with the poor children East Timor, but I do not have the physical capability to take on such a rigorous task. I was sick for one-third of my experience! Therefore, my call is to pray for the missions. I would love to hear what everyone else is up to.

Okay, this is suppose to be easy right? Well, this is my first time trying this. Where am I supposed to find the "tags" box or is it labels? "Tarry Le, East Timor"

Welcome to the VIDES+USA Blog!
Volunteers International for Development, Education, and Service (VIDES) is the lay missionary arm of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians -- the Salesian sisters, or FMAs. With the support and payer of the sisters, we volunteers go to where we are needed and serve children and women at risk. VIDES is a world-wide network of volunteers, and the volunteers of VIDES+USA are all over the world.
This blog is a place for current and past volunteers to share their experiences, and for their friends and family to keep tabs on them. It's also a good place for any other interested or curious folks to see what we're about.
Thanks for stopping by!
